PRESS RELEASE – Support for interns’ rights

—————————————————————

Europe is coping with a serious economic crisis, and young people are those mostly affected by it, being confronted with record-high levels of unemployment.

From this point of view, any work opportunity is precious to gain the necessary work experience to enter the job market. At the same time, also due to the difficult economic conditions, there is an increasing recurrence to unpaid internships. This practice is also in place in certain European institutions. The European Federalist Party supports the call for a “European statute for the interns” providing the guarantee that some minimum standards in terms of working hours and reimbursement are respected.

In light of the above, the European Federalist Party supports the demonstration organised in Brussels on Wednesday 17th in front of the European Parliament in Brussels.

Yves Gernigon: yves.gernigon@lesfederalistes.eu

The European Federalist Party (EFP) is the pan-European party for a more democratic, united and solidary Europe: a Europe of the people and for the people. The EFP was founded in 2011 in Paris by citizens from all over Europe and has since developed into a cross-border movement with thousands of members, supporters and chapters in 18 EU states. The EFP was instrumental in the introduction of several key laws and reforms in the EU, including improvements to the Lisbon treaty, the European Citizens’ Initiative and the EU roaming regulation.
